Fertility testing prior to one year TTC?

Question

Wondering if anyone has gone through the process of assessing their fertility prior to the year mark. My husband and I have been TTC for three months. However, my husband has type 1 diabetes (well controlled) and Addison's disease (doesn't produce cortisol). As such he is on hydrocortisone everyday to save his life. It is a steroid that is not testosterone related, but I'm worried it may affect his fertility. We're thinking of having a seen analysis soon, but I'm worried doctors may not take our concerns seriously. I don't want to keep getting my hopes up if there is very little chance.

I took my concerns about my husband to our primary care doctor at 5/6 months of trying. She did basic blood work that came back showing very low testosterone levels which allowed us to seek fertility help earlier than most. It has now been 12 months and we just started our first round of IUI instead of just booking our consult, which took about two months by the way.

I think it depends on the doctor and your situation. I was referred to a specialist at 10 months due too irregular cycles and possible pcos. I ended up seeing the specialist at the year though because of his availability. And also check your insurance. If they cover any fertility problems some require 1 year if younger than 35 with no medical issues.

I started my fertility workup after 4 months, because I was already diagnosed with PCOS in high school, my periods were becoming irregular, and I was having bad cramping. My OBGYN took it as far as she could, then I went to a fertility specialist after 7 months. I began IVF at about 9 months TTC. Insurance hasn't given us an issue because the PCOS and irregular periods justified the start of the workup, and then the fertility specialist found I wasn't ovulating and my husband has very low morphology, which justifies the IVF. The one year rule didn't matter for our situation bc the doctors have been able to justify the testing/treatment medically each step of the way. 
If you're concerned, I'd speak with the doctor but ask specifically if they think your insurance would cover the workup/treatment in your specific situation, or if you should wait until you hit 1 year.

I wanna say it's between 6 months and a year is when they will do tests. depending on your doctor

I went to see my doctor after a year of infertility. She said she was surprised I didn't come in sooner. I told her I thought I had to wait a year before asking for help. She told me that she will see people after 6 months, especially after 25.
