I hope im not making a mistake

So ive recenly been talking to this really cute guy over snapchat we know each other through mutual friends. he's nice and hot and I think i like him. problem is lots of girls have felt the same way and it didnt end well for them. One of our mutual friends said it was a bad idea to get involved with him and i said that we can be friends unless he asked me out properly, but i feel like we're both leading each other on and that this will end badly. He knows i like flirting with him and vice versa so... help... (im 16 btw)
