Do you think it's ok to adopt a pet while renting?

Question

Not all places allow pets, so do you think it's the responsible thing to do to adopt a pet while renting? I see people all the time trying to re-home pets cuz they can't have them where they are moving to and it's heart breaking. Pets are amazing and I understand the desire to have one. I just kind of think it's selfish when you don't know where you will even be in the next year after your lease it up.

You can buy a house and still not know where you'll be in a year.  You could lose your income and have to sell.  You could be in an accident and not capable of looking after a pet.  I've had my pets for two years now and am renting,  I just don't bother looking at places that don't allow pets.

I've had pets while renting for 8 years. It has never been an issue because I have never even looked at apartments that aren't pet friendly. Does it narrow your options? Yes. Is it impossible to find a good pet friendly place if you try hard enough? No.

Me and my husband owned a home in Scotland and decided to get a dog who we adore mt husband was offered a position in Houston Texas we agreed on the condition that we could take our dog. We've been in Houston renting for three years we have our dog from Scotland (who travelled well) and have since adopted another dog. Having dogs just narrows your search sometimes but if you try hard enough it's possible. My dogs are my life and there's no way I wouldn't try everything in my power to keep them with us

My husband and I owned a house, sold it and moved across the country with our two dogs. We lived in hotels for 109 days before we found a place that would take our pitbull terrier. We found plenty of places that allowed animals and would allow our other dog who is a mutt. There were places that did allow potties but they were always full. Animals are a lifetime commitment and once you have them you have to adjust your life. It's unacceptable to just get rid of them to make it easier for you to move. If you ever see that as a problem you shouldn't get a pet.

My husband and I have two dogs and rent. We make a point to only look at places to rent who allow dogs. Plain and simple. It's not selfish or irresponsible at all. I've known people who have had no choice but to re-home their pets because of a money issue, or because of something out of their control. That's also not selfish. Things happen. It's better than abandoning the dogs. At least they have a home and are being taken care of.

Most places that you rent from , like apartments, they're worried about animals messing things up . Also most houses that rent out , their homeowners insurance goes up. As much as it sucks I can understand both sides . Unfortunately right now we're renting and not allow pets which have me super bummed .
