Is it weird for a guy in his 20's to hang out with a teenager?

I'm a 17 year old girl and I recently got my first job at a restaurant and have been trying to make friends. This guy is 23 and he asked me if I wanted to hang out with him and I wanted to be friends with him so I said yes. But he asked me for a dinner and a movie and drinking after. I ended up cancelling on him bc it made me feel really uncomfortable bc he's basically a man and I'm a girl. Was I over reacting?

Not necessarily. If you didn't feel comfortable, go with your instincts.

I personally wouldn't hang out with someone so young and neither would my friends or fiancé. It's a bit off.

That's up to you personally and how you feel about the situation. Me, I wouldn't think twice about it. Granted I did get with a 31 year old at 19, so I'm probably more comfortable around older men than you would be. Trust yourself, if the situation doesnt feel right then don't do it.

The age gap isn't an issue. If you didn't feel comfortable spending that kind of time with him, then you made the right decision.  Wouldn't you have turned down an 18 year old that also made you feel uncomfortable? The older you get, the less age matters. Spend your time with people you like and who like you back.

Don't ever feel obligated to hang out with someone. If it makes you uncomfortable then don't hang out with him. I do find it a little odd that he asked a 17 year old to drink with him but that's just my opinion. Just remember, you can always say no and try not to let anyone pressure you into something you aren't comfortable with 💕

Personally I have never had a good experience with adult men wanting to befriend me when I was a minor. I've also been invited to hang out with my coworkers who are minors (I'm 21 now), and frankly it is a little awkward and harder to relate to them.
