How to handle rejection

Backstory: Meet a cool guy, went on two dates with and continued to hook up for the past two months.

Recently: This past Sunday he came over to hook up but I was on my period and decided to come back to that later. I message him Monday to see if he was free Wednesday to finish what we started (my sex drive is so frustrating on my period). So he replies with "I'd love to see you, blah blah, I have a lot of things to tell you about, blah blah blah. "

Problem: I think he's gonna have one of those "I like you but" conversations. Part of me wants to bail out to avoid hearing a lame excuse but I know I should be an adult and handles my problems head on.

Any advice on handling face-to-face quits?
