Age restriction on condoms?

Is there an age restriction on buying condoms in the uk? I didn't think there was however someone told me they took them to the self checkout and it went red and they were asked for ID to prove they were over  18? Is this true? Or can anyone buy them?

i live in the us but wow if that is true  thats silly in my opinion  im sure there some places  you can get free ones where i live if your in high school you can talk to your nurse and health  teacher they will give you some they want us kids to have sefe sex and even Planned Parenthoodcan and im sure even going to your doctor will give some so im sure they some places where you are that can help out like this or if you have older brother sister cousin or frined im sure they will help you out
