what should I do?

I have this neighbor that is using the CIO (cry it out method) for their child and I can hear the poor kid SCREAMING for at least an hour. I believe it is my above neighbor (which I am well aquainted with) and don't really want to break that. but it's awful to listen to and for those who don't know, this method causes severe damage to a child's neurological state. I would know, I once tried this method myself. I can confront them face to face, just leave it, or I can send a gift basket of creditble information regarding the damaging effects of the CIO method, along with some goodies of course. What should I do?

Sometimes CIO is the only way. & it's not damaging if done properly at the right age.

we did cio, but never let our daughter scream for more than 25-30 min and that was with going in every 5 , 10, 15 minutes to check on her, sooth her. etc.  our daughter is now 10.5 months old. she sleeps 12 hrs a night. she doesn't cry anymore,  just plays with her hands and goes to sleep,  while smiling at us. cio is not bad if done correctly. our daughter is not damaged in any way. she's a very happy baby at all times. she's walking, says mama, dadda, stacks toys, eats solids.  she's ahead of most her age. cio didn't hurt her in any way. I don't agree with letting child scream for an hour. that's cio- gone wrong.  but it's not UR problem. cio is something that parents choose to do and even calling cps on them won't do anything,  because lots do cio. let them deal with it, because they are parents.

I can't believe so many moms on this app do CIO :( poor babies. Honestly I would say something to whoever you're renting from. Let them deal with it. Noise complaint = no more crying if you do it enough times lol

I think if you decide to do anything, talk to her in person. Personally, I would find it very insulting if someone gave me a handout on how my parenting style was damaging my child. Maybe she doesn't have any support, maybe she's suffering from PPD. You don't know what's going on that has lead to her parenting choices. If you do talk to her, make it a very supportive and friendly conversation.

Not your kid, not your place. Maybe they are checking in on the baby, but you don't hear that. Maybe the kid has separation anxiety. Maybe they are actually sitting there with the baby and he's just throwing tantrums about going down. Even if they are doing the CIO method it isn't your place to tell them not to do it. If it's the noise that's bothering you, you could ask about it and they might ask you for advice since I'm sure they don't like hearing crying for that long either.

It def does not cause neurological damage. Maybe if done as a newborn but above 5-6 months, it's fine. I should know, I've had to do it with all 3 of mine and they are perfectly happy and healthy.

Are you sure they are doing CIO? Because my daughter had colic for the first 4 months of her life and she would cry for hours straight even if we were holding her, soothing her, trying to give her a bottle, etc. We lived in an apartment and I always felt really bad for the neighbors.

I don't think CIO should be an option when renting.. but I also think it's incredibly cruel and goes against every definition of parenting and motherly instinct so I really don't respect your neighbor. I doubt anything you say or do would change anything, just make the parent bitter and spiteful, even though I'm on your side :(
