Boy issues

So I am really in love with guy. And my first problem with this is that we started to getting involved and he started to like me while he was in a relationship. That relationship lasted 8 months and I am the reason on why it ended. 3 months have past and we are back at school and this whole week he has been super distant and sad. He eventually told me that he isnt over his ex yet and he isnt in love with me but still loves me. And he still likes me and wants to try to work things out until he gets over his ex. He also told me he is super happy around me and like doesn't think about her around me. I just really don't know what im supposed to do because I want to be there for him and help him through this but it's just really hard to understand the feeling isn't mutual and he can't fully commit to me rn because how he feels. I understand I can't control what he feels but it just sucks.
