Severe cramps

Hi everyone: looking for some advice if possible. I am 6 weeks pregnant and For the past week or so, I've been waking up in the night to the most severe cramping pains I've ever experienced. They are really low, make me hot and sick and are generally really worrying me. There is no bleeding. I spoke to my midwife who said as long as there was no bleeding it's probably normal, but to make an apt with my GP. She said they wouldn't do anything for me anyway, as I was under 16 weeks. So this morning, after another night of no sleep, I've called the doctors and I have an appointment tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
