Baby coming home outfit?

I'm looking to get my baby a coming home outfit, is it better to have a one piece or can he wear a onesie and pants? I wasn't sure with the umbilical cord.

One pieces are best. Especially until the cord falls off because you never know when the pants may ride up and irritate it.
