membrane sweep, 38 weeks + 4 days?

Question

my ob last visit had mentioned doing a membrane sweep this coming wednesday. I'll be 38 weeks and 4 days. is this procedure totally necessary? because tbh, I kind of wanted to keep her in there until at least 39 weeks.  also, does this usually trigger labor? I really really want to do this naturally and let her come when she's ready. unless I go over my due date.... that's a different story. but I have a feeling she won't stay in there past 40 weeks. FTM here

I've had 3 sweeps, one at 38 weeks,39 weeks and 40 weeks. Currently 40+3 and no sign of labour. 
IMO- it only works if your body is ready.

Definitely not necessary. I would decline if you're looking to do things on baby's time.

I've just had my first sweep this morning at 41+3. Going to have another Monday if it doesn't trigger anything, trying to avoid induction which is booked in for Wednesday (42 weeks) x

I have *heard* that it only works in approx 1 in 8 women the first time. Didn't work for me, and I am past due. But no it's not necessary.

I've heard it works on some women and doesn't for some.
I would refuse it if your not comfortable with it or ask more questions.. like if it is medically necessary for your baby to be born now in case it does trigger labor

My dr says I can do it from here on. I'm think I'll only try it at 40 weeks. :)

It only works if baby is ready and your cervix is in the right position. I had 4 attempted ones with my last baby and all were unsuccessful. That was 40 and 41 weeks plus.
