How do you manage your contraction pain?

Samantha

I'm 40+2, and have been having very painful contractions for 2.5 hours. They're about 6 minutes apart, and l&d; says not to come in until they are 3 minutes apart. These contractions are so painful that every time I get one I need to stand up and walk around because laying there just makes it seem more unbearable. They're each just over a minute long. I feel like this is the real deal, but I'm not about to head to the hospital this soon. I really wanted to take a warm bath but read that it can slow down early labor, and I'm not about that life right now. So.... any advice? Should I call labor and delivery and tell them what's going on with the pain? Should I just try to bear with this pain until I start getting closer to 3 minutes? And if so, do you have some advice to help me manage the pain?😬 thank you! I will add that even though they are very painful, I would still be able to talk through them if I had to, but I do have to do some heavy breathing to help deal with the pain.

**update**

After about 2.5 hours of 6 minute contractions, I started having contractions every 4- 5 minutes. They were that way for just a little bit until I had to use the bathroom. I had a loose BM, and since then I started having mini contractions between the big ones. I was a little nervous and confused as to what was happening and how I was supposed to time them, so I called L&d; and told them what was going on with the contractions and the pain. They told me to come in to get checked, and I was 4-5 cm dilated!
