Irma- shelter arrests

So my lovely sheriff has decided that our county will be checking IDs at all shelter locations and running warrant checks. Anyone seeking shelter who has a warrant will be arrested.

I certainly do not have a warrant out for my arrest or know anyone who does but I cannot believe this is the stance he's taking during this storm. So, is he indirectly saying criminals deserve to die? I understand bad choices lead to a loss of privileges but I am disgusted at the lack of compassion for people during this time.

Maybe it's bc I'm an ED nurse and see people of ALL KINDS on a daily basis but this seems wrong. Any thoughts?
