I don't get it🤔😩

I love seeing these beautiful decorated baby showers but I don't understand why many put so much money into the baby shower when you can still have a nice decent one but not go completely out because couldn't that money go towards baby stuff? Like what if you end up spending more for the looks of your baby shower than what people actually bring/spend on gifts? That's what I'm terrified of is spending more on the shower and get less for the baby even though a baby shower is much needed.
