Should Native Americans get over/let go of the past?
I mentioned this in my post last night, on my political science class a kid mentioned that "We shouldn't compensate Natives anymore, what happened happened a long long time ago." And then he followed up with "they need to get over it, we pay them an absurd amount of money anyways."
Before I could respond the professor moved on but before you answer consider the following...
- Natives didn't have the right to vote tile 1972
- Natives still feel the effects of colonization to this day, many don't have clean water, electricity or in door plumbing.
- Natives were used as lab rats for the majority of the 1900s and native children were removed from their families and forced to be adopted by white families to "civilize and convert them to Christianity."
- Every single promise and treaty the US has made with Natives has been broken.
Etc etc.
Should the US stop "compensating" Natives? (They don't really anyways but lets pretend they do 🙄.)
Should Natives "get over it"?
(Answer the question in the title for the poll, other questions are just for comments.)
