How to have guy friends when dating

I moved to a new state so my bf and I are long distance. Today while waiting for the bus to my apartment this guy walked by and my purse was on the bench. He went to sit on the ground and I said here I'll move my purse (in a kind non flirty way). We started talking and he's super nice as a guy friend. I am very bubbly and I don't want to act like I'm interested but he seems like a nice guy to be friends with or at least friendly too. How do I handle this. I was gonna mention something that him and my bf have in common but wasn't sure if I should have or what to do. Any advice? I just hate how guilty I feel after talking to a guy since I don't want to accidentally lead them on!
