This sucks

He

Here's the moment I acknowledged that I need to supplement with formula, because a week after birth, my little guy is still dropping weight. This is despite a fabulous lactation consultant, feeding every three hours on the nose all weekend and manually emptying the breasts when he finished nursing then giving that to him as well.

But when the lactation consultant used the word supplement, I cannot tell you how much my sleep deprived self bawled and felt like a failure. This should be natural, and I can't get him to latch consistently. I felt terrible.

18 hours later, we're now feeding every 2 hours, he's getting formula, attempting to nurse, then getting my pumped milk as well (though we've avoided bottles so far, because I can't bring myself to cross that line yet). He's sleeping better, and that's all the proof I need to know that we made the right call. He was hungry.

I'm sticking with it, we are seeing the medical director for the breastfeeding clinic to r/o medical reasons for the latching issue today. But man, breastfeeding sucks.
