How often do you need to take a dog to the vet?

Some friend told me once a year or if they have any problems, another told me just once in the beginning, then to get spayed/neutered, and then only if there's any problems.

Once a year for a checkup is right. Dogs are just like humans in that they need an annual visit to the doctor to make sure they're healthy because not all health problems are noticeable.

I take my dog once a year. My vet actually reminds me for his regular check up and any shots needed...rabies, distemper and they check for heartworms. It’s best you take you’re dog once a year just like a human they need to be checked also.

I take mine around twice a year. he gets two sets of shots and I pick up his heartworm meds and flea and tick.

Once a year for a check up and to update vaccines, there's no need to take them more than that unless something comes up in between that that needs medical attention

Working in the rescue world (speaking from experience, we recommend at least twice a year and more if they are diagnosed with any serious illnesses that require medication so they can get a check up and mark down their progress or regress. Also, bring the doggos in if they have any immediate, concerning issues. 
If they get neutered or spayed, that can count as one vet visit because they do get checked over, but they should still see the vet again 14-21 days after the surgery to make sure they are healing correctly. This does not count as a vet visit because it's just a post op check up. With any other concerns or questions, don't be afraid to call your vet!
