I got a blood clot in my ankle 6 days ago after a 12 hour flight, it's been swollen and felt like a bruise for a few days. In the last 6 I have taken 6 more 5 hour long flights and now my whole leg is tender. Can I wait for my doctor to be available or is this an emergency situation?

I'm a nurse, you should go to the ER for this. You need blood thinners ASAP if you have blood clots. Definitely not worth risking a blood clot in your lung (pulmonary embolism), blood clot in your brain (stroke) or blood clot in your heart (myocardial infarction/heart attack)...definitely get it looked at sooner than later!! Smaller problems are always easier to fix and recover from than bigger problems!

Absolutely go to the hospital. I've had 2 blood clots in my life both started in my leg. 1 went into my left lung (pulmonary embolism). Best wishes xx
