Formula at night?

My son is 3 weeks old and I have EBF. The last few nights he has woke up every hour wanting to eat and I am totally exhausted. My husband mentioned that some of his coworkers said they feed their little ones formula at their first night feeding. They said this helps their baby sleep longer stretches and it's only one bottle of formula. Has anyone heard of this or used this to help? I want to continue to BF but my nipples are so so sore and I really need sleep! I won't give up but if this helps it could be wonderful!

Babies nurse for more reasons than just being hungry. The more they latch, the more your body is being told to produce more milk! If anyone is supplementing, make sure you're pumping every 3-4 hours still, or your body will not keep up with milk production. Keep going momma! Cluster feeding can be normal. Try lanolin for the nipple pain. This stage will pass. Hang in there!

I'll pump through out the day and usually have atleast 3 ounces, sometimes more if I'm lucky, and feed that In a bottle at night and she sleeps atleast 6 hours!

I give my baby formula for the last feeding of the night occasionally. I'll try both boobs and if he's still hungry I will make a bottle of formula. Honestly, I felt bad at first, but my nipples and mental health couldn't survive the constant feeding.

I do both throughout the day too I guess I'm not producing much as well and I have to give her formula. But yes like Denise said formula is thicker so it makes them fuller longer.

I give my almost 7 week old son 3oz of formula at bedtime and he lets me sleep 6 hours. I nurse him from both breasts and top off with the 3oz of formula.

If you formula feed your body won't know to produce it so you will always struggle to keep up to baby so if you want to continue to breastfeed I wouldn't

I feed formula at night and mostly breast milk pumped or from the breast through out the day, my little girl wakes up maybe once a night. She slept for 7&1/2 hours straight last night. I highly recommend it!

I either use a pumped bottle at night or I’ll use formula at night and breastfeed during the day. My lo at night sleeps between 3 and 4 hours but she’s been an amazing sleeper from the beginning she will be 4 weeks Thursday
