I just moved from Florida (where AC was constant) to PA where we have a whole house and a heat wave right now. We can't sleep at night and I'm home alone during the day. It's unbearable. We just moved and can't afford an AC unit (because we have to buy one of those weird vent-y ones because our house is old and doesn't have normal windows). Here's what I'm doing so far, please tell me what else to do.

• Wet and froze rope dog toys for the pups to chew on and maybe cool down. I'm keeping their water full of ice too.

• Put a set of clothes in the freezer to wear later.

• Wet dollar store gloves and put them in the freezer.

• Socks in the freezer.

• Wet washcloth in the freezer to put on the back of my neck.

• Closed all west-facing windows and closed the blinds (for one set, there are no blinds so I just hung dark clothes to keep out the light).

• All other windows open (we typically half a breeze coming from the North) and all fans on.

• No use of the oven or dryer and no leaving TVs or game consoles running.

• Face masks in the fridge to do later.

What else can I do? This is unbearable and we aren't sleeping at night because of it.
