For those unmarried in relationships over 3 years, why aren’t you married yet?

I know that you are asking for unmarried couple advice, but it took my husband about 7 years to propose. We were in a good place in our relationship, but we were trying to excel further in school and our careers prior to marriage. It was always a known fact for us that once we were going to get married, babies would soon follow, and we wanted to make sure we were ready financially and education wise to settle down and begin living for someone other than ourselves and each other. We've been together for 11 years, and married for almost 3.

we're in college, it's just not right yet because we're still really kids! 3 years together, planning on marriage, but it just doesn't make sense at where we are in our lives right now :)

We decided money was better spent on buying and remodeling our home first. We want to get married, but don't want to have a cheap/quick wedding (they're okay, just not what we want), so we're waiting.

I'm married now, but we didn't get married until after 7 years of being together. We both had discussed the idea of marriage early on in the relationship and we agreed on a timeline that included marriage AFTER I finished college and had a job. Less than a year after I began working in my field (I'm a teacher), he proposed. We got married 4 months after the proposal and got pregnant 4 months after the wedding. I'm now 14 weeks pregnant and due with our baby girl 2 weeks after our 1st year wedding anniversary (and 1 month before our 8th year anniversary of being together). So really it was all about communication and agreeing on what we felt was important and staying on track to achieve it. I will admit though, it was hard sometimes seeing friends who were together much  shorter of a time and were getting married already. And we got tons of questions from family about "why the hold up?" lol but it all worked out for the best! Good luck in your relationship!
