Thoughts on bedside bassinet?

With my first daughter we ended up cosleeping because I was so tired that I could not get out of bed to put her back and frequently passed out holding her. I'd like to try a bedside bassinet with our next baby because I feel that it would make it easier for me to lay baby back down in his/her own bed safely. I didn't want to collect again because nothing scares me more than the possibility of SIDS and I don't want to have a repeat of what happened with my first daughter (she's two now and is perfectly healthy but it was still terrifying everytime I realized I'd fallen asleep with her)
