Recommended kind of Birth Control?

I am about to start some kind of birth control, and want to know which kind you all recommend. 
I'd prefer get-it-and-forget-it birth control, but my mom doesnt want me to get an IUD. I'd really prefer something that wont make me gain a lot of weight (though I know thats a possibility with all forms of hormonal bc). 
Which kinds do you all prefer/use, and which kinds do you not like?

I had the nuvaring for a while, and I loved it, it's not every day. For most people it's every 3 weeks you take it out, leave it out for a week and then put in a new one.

I'm just started with injections and what my doc recommend was a shot call progestin  (I might be slightly off with the name.) He says it's a much milder hormone so it's easier on the body and supposed to have less side effects. but you need to get another shot every 8 weeks

I personally take the pill but my best friend has the implant rod and she loves it and as far as I know she gained little to no weight
