My birth story - scheduled C section but water broke 😆 VERY LONG

Amanda

Hi everyone. Now that my little peanut is almost a month old I figured I would finally share my birth story!

I had a fairly easy pregnancy. I never had any issues other than a little bit of morning sickness and heartburn at the beginning. (I know I am incredibly lucky 😆)

I had several 3D private ultrasounds because I wanted to see as much of my baby as I could. I wanted to do everything I could with this one since we could afford it and it’s our first, why not?

Around 20 weeks, they pushed back my due date from 9/9 to 9/18 because she was measuring smaller than my original due date but continued to grow with the new due date. I was very weary of this because I was pretty sure I conceived on 12/17 which fit perfectly with my first due date.

At around 25 weeks, I failed the first GD test by a couple points, took the three hour and failed one of them by one point. Since they look for two elevated or low numbers, they told me to watch my diet but they weren’t concerned.

At 36 weeks, we found out our LO was breech. This was the first sort of “complication” I had had. They gave us the option of a version. We decided to decline it. I just did not feel comfortable with it for some reason. I have literally no family history of breech babies and something in my gut was telling me she was that way for a reason. The doctor we met with was very pushy and kind of made us feel guilty for choosing a C-section over trying the version. We scheduled our C-section for September 11th at 7am. They ended up calling and pushing it back to 1pm which was annoying because I wanted to get it over with first thing in the morning that day but it wasn’t a huge deal

Leading up to September 11th, I had no signs of impending labor. I was not dialated or effaced whatsoever. On September 10th I said to my husband, without this C-section I probably was gonna go a couple more weeks without having her.

Around 12:20AM on 9/11, I woke up to pee and when i went to sit up, my water broke. I walked to the bathroom to pee, and leaked the whole way. When my water broke it was A LOT. We called the hospital, since I was supposed to be having a C-section in the morning. They told me to come in, even tho my contraction were not close together.

Once there, they decided to push my C-section up to 7 again and I would have to labor until then seeing how I wasn’t progressing quickly. I had strictly back labor and it was terrible. I was in the tub the entire time basically while my husband and mom slept 🙄

At 7 they came in and started to prep me. I was nervous but mostly anxious to be done contracting. The doctors and everyone were awesome. They made me feel so comfortable the entire time. The epidural didn’t hurt me at all. They numbed me quick and laid me down and I never felt another thing from my ribs down. They talked to me the whole time casually which was awesome because it took the tension away. The entire C-section took about an hour. She was born after 11 minutes and took them 50ish minutes to finish cleaning me up. I didn’t have any stitches at all. All glue which was awesome. My daughter never left the room. They did all the cleaning and measuring in the room. My husband got to go over and take lots of pictures. My entire C-section experience was incredible. I couldn’t have asked for better honestly.

The next day the surgeon came in to meet with me. They told me that I have a septum in my uterus and that my daughter was only growing in about half of my uterus. They told me that typically they only find these when people can not conceive or have a lot of miscarriages so we are incredibly fortune that she was completely healthy and had no complications. She was small - 6 pounds 10 ounces but fairly large given the circumstances. This is also why she was breech, and if we tried to flip her it would of very likely caused complications. We are still waiting to learn what this will mean for future pregnancies but it sounds like it can be removed which would be safer in the future. This was my first pregnancy and I got pregnant the first month we tried. We are very fortunate to have a healthy baby in our lives today!

My daughter is absolutely perfect. I couldn’t ask for a better baby truly.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed my positive C-section experience ☺️
