Has you ever been able to get a pet even though your SO/relative is allergic to them?

I really want to get a cat, and my husband said he would be willing to get one, but he MIGHT be allergic. He said it isn't a severe allergy, it is basically just to long-haired cats. He said he should be fine with short-haired cats. I suggested that we go to the animal shelter, and he spend a bit of time with any potential cats, and see what he experiences.

I am severely allergic to most animals (😭) and the fun thing about cats is that if you get them when they are kittens, they have an oil under their nails so as they scratch you, you build immunity toward that cat.  When I first got him I died for a few days... but the more I played the better I got..... now 3 years later he sleeps on my pillow with me and I don’t even get a stuffy nose. 
If I go to other houses with cats or dogs almost immediately I can’t breathe, my nose is stuffed, my skin is red and blotchy and my throat feels like it’s closing.

If you put your cat on a high quality diet, like The Honest Kitchen, Primal, or Stella's and Chewys... or even raw, there is significantly less cat dander produced and they shed less as well. 
Diet makes a night and day difference. I'm very allergic to cats, and you'd never know that we have two cats in our house.

My husband is allergic, and we have one. He adjusts to him and if he is having issues he takes some allergy medication

My dad used to be verrry allergic to cats but somehow became more immune to it and now he and his wife have 4 cats and he only has to take his allergy pills if he touches his face after petting them

I found out that I was allergic to cats back in 2010 shortly after I had lost one cat. I also had another cat at the time. I refused to get rid of the cat. I'm able to keep my allergies under control with my medications and allergy shots. My bf has a cat and I would never ask him to get rid of it because of my allergies. Even when we decide to move in together.

Don't they have hypo allergenic cats?

if you have a friend that has a cat see if you can pet sit for a couple days and bring it to your house. it would be upsetting to spend so much and invest in animal products to find out him being allergic
