Break up with boyfriend ☹️😔

I'm in kind of a tough spot. I'm in a long distance relationship right now (across the country for school) and all this time apart has made me realize that I don't miss my boyfriend as much as I should and honestly believe for several reasons I need to end the relationship. The problem is that even when I go back home we live hours apart, so I wouldn't want to have him come to my house just to break up with him. That seems mean. That leaves the phone or FaceTime, which I really don't want to do. I really need some solid advice here. He is so sensitive and has our whole life literally planned out and I know he's going to be crushed. What's the best way to handle this?
