Induction at 39 weeks ?

Hi all, looking for others personal experiences on being induced ... I'm 36 weeks and currently my baby is measuring large , they said she could be 8.5/9 pounds at birth, so because of that they said I have the option of inducing a week early ... my doctor basically said either way they wouldn't know if I needed a section until I was in labor to see how wide my cervix would go since it's my first baby so either a week early or at due date wouldn't matter for that  ... he said the upside to inducing would be the hope of a slightly smaller baby but it's ultimately my choice ...I'm torn on what I want to do and nervous about making such a big decision  😩

honestly I think it is ridiculous to induce over a guess weight of your baby. they can be so inaccurate. I delivered my second baby with absolutely zero medication and she was 9lbs 10oz and I'm alive to tell about it. your body is way more amazing than you and your doctor are giving it credit for. very rarely will your body create a baby it can't deliver. have a little more faith and trust in your amazing body.

Don't do it. There is no reason to - your body is smart and baby knows when it's ready. You will be just fine. Your body was made for this.

Reading the comments and a lot of people are saying doctors often get the size wrong and baby might not be so big, but a lot of the time they get it right too! I know a girl who denied being induced and went into labour naturally after doctors recommended being induced because baby was measuring big, baby got stuck because her body just could not birth a baby so big, he was 9lbs something. He now has a problem with his shoulder and she tore ALL the way🤷‍♀️ not trying to scare you but doctors know what they're talking about so just keep that in mind❤️

I'd recommend doing serious research on the pros and cons of induction. I highly recommend Ina Mays guide to childbirth book simply to learn more about your body's capabilities and ease some of your fears of labor in general. I wish I had read it before my first child! I wouldn't even consider it until after 41 weeks simply because your due date and their guess on size is exactly that, a guess. Good luck mama!

I am being induced Nov.4 at 38w, was also induced for baby 1 at 40w.

I think ppl take being induced way to serious some will be negative and say how you will have your baby when it's ready and it dosent matter how big that you shouldn't induce. I was induced at 39wks and was very happy with my experience my daughter was 6pounds 13oz perfectly healthy and happy! I was in labor for about 13hrs but it was not bad at all I did get epidural after my water was broken but overall it was a good experience and I wouldn't mind doing it with this pregnancy another good thing about it is I was so nervous about not knowing when to go to the hospital and being induced I had a set date and time and I was 100% prepared! It's ultimately your choice they can be off with weight I was told even by my ob the day I went in that she thought it was going to be a bigger baby but she was average I would say as long as ur baby is where it needs to be health wise I would rather be induced then do a section

I think the term “induced” is used a little loosely because it can mean so many different things. Pitocin is one thing, and for some makes labor extremely painful and can lead to other interventions and c-section etc. which is why so many people can be against being induced. But other methods of induction can include sweeping or membranes, breaking water bag etc that are technically more natural and don’t come with as many side effects/risk factors. I was “induced” at 38 weeks with my last baby by having my water broken. No other interventions of any kind and no meds of any kind. I gave birth 2.5 hrs later to a perfectly healthy 8lb baby girl. My first natural labor my water broke on its own at 38 weeks and my baby was born 4.5 hrs later with no interventions and no meds. I chose the controlled water breaking because I was scared I would have another incredibly fast labor and thank goodness I did because she came in half the time. I’m 32 weeks with #3 and I am strongly considering another controlled water breaking at 39 weeks because I’m afraid if I don’t this baby may be born in the car on the way to the hospital. There are pros and cons to every situation.

I was induced due to high blood pressure. Everything went perfectly during my labor. The only reason I had to have a Caesarean section was because my daughters head was so large she got stuck under my pelvic bone. They said there was no way I could have ever delivered her naturally due to the size of her head. But of course we didn't know that until after she was born 🤷🏻‍♀️
