Godparents necessary??

Do you think giving your children godparents is the best thing to do or are you not gonna bother with doing  it

The term 'Godparents' just refers to another set of parents in God's eyes- usually Catholic. This is if something (God forbid) were ever to happen to the mom & dad, they would take on the responsibility of raising the child. They have a revered position in the kids' lives...
THAT is not necessary unless your religion calls for it. As a mom of 7, I would def say that having someone who loves your children and is capable of raising them should something happen and you CANNOT, is always a good idea. So is life insurance lol! If you want to call those people the 'Godparents', that's cool, too.

Godparents are supposed to make sure your child still continues to have faith if both parents happen to die. Having godparents does not mean that's who your child goes to... you need to have a will stating who you want your children to go to in case you die. Sometimes the godparents might be the ones you want but being godparent doesn't mean that automatically. Both of my parents passed away and we didn't end up with any of the godparents. They didn't have a will so a family member from both sides volunteered to take us in and we got to choose which we wanted. My brother was 16 and I was 9. My brother made the decision. We both not religious at all either - our godparents didn't do a very good job. LOL

If you aren't religious and not getting your child baptized there's no reason for them.

I want someone designated that If my husband and I were some reason dead or whatever and my/ his parents are unable to take care of them that they go to someone I trust and respect rather then in foster care etc

We had my son baptized but we chose not to pick godparents. I personally have god parents and have never known a them. I couldn’t even tell you their names. I didn’t want to have to worry about dealing with that in the future. Sometimes friendships change (if you choose close friends and not family) and I don’t think there a reason for my son to have them and not know who they are. I have plenty of family who would know how to raise him and raise him well if I wasn’t around for some reason. Again that’s my personal opinion though. You decide what you think is best. But it definitely isn’t necessary.

We did godparents for both of our children and we r not that religious I use to go to church every Sunday growing up and as I got older we kinda stopped and my husband was the same but we did it so we know who our children would go to if something would ever happen to us. Godparents r supposed to be ppl you would want ur kids to go to who would raise them as you would so it's really all up to u

If there's a certain person you would want raising your child, in the event you and your husband both passed, or a person you really DON'T want awarded custody  (eg toxic family member) then yes. Just make sure you have some sort of document even if you don't have an attorney, e.g. a notarized document that both you and your husband sign, keep a copy and give one to the designated godparent.
