Two year sentence for taking a life

I apologise if you consider this the wrong group to be posting in and I know I probably should be posting in the rant room but I wanted more people to see it.

About 9 months ago a boy who went to my school, who was very good friends with my boyfriend, was killed by a drunk driver.

He was on his way to college, walking on the pavement and the driver came out of nowhere. He died there on the street.

Obviously a lot of people were devastated. Where I live everyone knows everyone, and he was a very popular person (not that it makes it anymore sad, it would still be heartbreaking if he wasn't popular.) Anyway. The drunk driver who killed him only got two years in prison. TWO YEARS FOR TAKING A LIFE. He was only 16 years old!!!

That is bullshit. My cousin got two years for growing weed, how the hell have they got the same sentence?!?!

So I guess since this is CC I have to give you something to debate. What do you think the minimum amount of time should be for taking a life (whether accidental or not) and should there be any factors that I've somebody less time, such as mental illness?
