on the other hand, my niece is 9 and she got a (better than mine) phone and she's into youtubers. I put safety measures on her phone because *god*, musical.ly and all that. so yeah, I kinda get the feeling.

I would only say if they suspect something or if the kid attitude changed or is acting weird. My mom checked my phone when i was 12, but once i got older she never did and she trusted me and realized my phone is personal. I didn’t sext or do anything bad, just texted my friends but for some reason when people go through my phone it feels like an invasion of privacy. Like once i showed my grandma a picture in my phone and she started swiping through the other pictures and it made me beyond mad.

yes. parents should be in the loop on whats going in in the child's life, even the stuff the child doesnt tell them. kids often lie about or dont talk to their parents about abuse, bullying, and other stuff. which is why the parents "never know anything was wrong" when their kid commits suicide or acts out.

First, why do these children have phones? I didn't get one until I was 17! And no, kids are also humans who need privacy I hate the "i do what i want because theyre my kids" mentality. Youre setting your kids up to be scared of you and it has a GIANT psychological effect on them. More often than not, they'll grow up with feelings that they'll have to deal with personally. Please treat children and teens with respect. We were there once too.
