Period and plan B

Hi. I took plan B the last two weeks in August. Got my period for 12 days. Then this month I got my period and it has been 9 days. I usually have my period for 4-5 days and im aware that plan b messes up your cycle for now. Can going on birth control help? I plan to go on it anyways. I feel ugh with my period for a long time. I hate tampons so I use pads. Just. Irritated with the extended periods.
