I’m so glad social media wasn’t around when I was a teenager. 
Facebook came out when I was a freshman in college. 
Back then, you couldn’t be on Facebook unless you were in college. 
Obviously they changed the rules eventually. 
I have no clue when I’ll let my daughter on social media.

Sex offenders use social media as a grooming tool. Which is why none off my daughters will be allowed to have a social media account until they are able to vote.

Depends. I would let my 12 year old have a facebook, all private, with family only, but I wouldn't let said child have a tumblr or imgur or any other social media that is focused on making friends instead of connecting with friends you already have.

It depends on the kid. 
13 is the youngest I’d allow my child to have social media. And even then, she’d have to prove she’s responsible, I’d need to have access to it (be friends/followers), and we would have many discussions on social media safety, self image, and how to have a healthy relationship with social media.

Things like Facebook and Instagram I would say 10-11 because you can check in on their profiles. Snapchat I would say 12 because it’s more difficult to monitor. However, I think its more about maturity than age. Also, even if you don’t allow it, it doesn’t mean they won’t do it.
