Pediatrician feeling son's penis?

Okay, so I just want to know if this is normal, and if it is, what the heck is he checking it for? My son is 9 months old, and the doctor checks it at each appointment and I don't know what he's checking for. Our son isn't circumcised, so he's not checking for healing. Does anyone know?

yes it's normal, they are checking for good blood flow (I believe). but of your child's doctor ever does anything that makes you concerned ask them what they are doing and why. that goes for your child's health at any age. but yes very normal (mom of 4 boys here).

Our doctor feels his scrotum to make sure his testicles are okay and feels around his groin area like the fold where legs meet trunk to make sure the lymph nodes there aren’t swollen. Can’t recall her ever really touching his penis though. Ask the doctor, you can totally be like “just curious what are you checking for when you check his penis? Is there something I should look out for?”

My pedi just took a quick look at a year to make sure the 'boys' were both down. She NEVER touches it... I even had a question about circumcision once and she barely did anything. It's def not necessary at EVERY appointment.

My kids are older now, 5 and 6, and dr just looks at it. But when they were babies he did manually check them. I know they check to make sure the testes have descended into the sac (their balls) and someone said the lymph nodes around groin area. My boys are also not circumcised. Completely normal.

If he's not circumcised the doctor may just be checking to make sure there's no rash/bacteria/yeast infection type symptom near any "folds". But I second another poster in saying you should and have every right to question anything you're uncomfortable with or concerned about :) Congrats and enjoy every second, it goes by so fast 😭❤️!
