Domestic violence

Is there anyway I can see my kids with a pfa (protection from abuse order)?I filed a pfa against my kids dad/husband. They are currently staying with there dad while I'm staying in a women's shelter. He wouldn't allow me to take the kids when I left home. I have called everywhere. The legal office said I have to wait until the judge orders a custody agreement but that could take awhile is there a way I can and I should be able to see them At this time we both have equal rights to the kids.
