I witnessed an argument lately between 2 of my coworkers and wanted your opinion ladies. At what age is it considered bad that your child is still not potty trained...?

The one mother was criticizing the other for her 4 year old still being in diapers and calling her lazy. I just wanted to see how you mamas view this topic.

Unless the child has a disability....3 years and up should be potty trained in my opinion. How can you talk and walk but can't potty on a toilet. I think it is lack of consistency with parents, just like prolonged bottle and pacifier use. I can't stand it.

My brother Is 3 and just now getting potty trained. But still has to wear a diaper If we’re out In public. Sometimes he forgets to tell us. And he doesn’t know while he’s sleeping. But It took a while he cried If he had to go near a toilet. And his younger brother that’s 2 literally tries to stand over the toilet and pee. All kids are different. There’s no need to criticize them over not being potty trained.

I think it was out of line to call her lazy... potty training has to be consistent... that means who ever takes care of her child while she’s at work and herself have to be on the same page...

My mom said I was an incredibly stubborn toddler (which I totally believe) I didn't fully potty train until I was almost 4, I didn't have a disability and I excelled in most other areas.  Every kid is different, I don't think it's usually anything the mother is doing wrong. It just is what it is.

Each child is different. Personally I'm not changing someone who eats what I eat. If tour child can feed themselves, it's time to use the potty. I know what I smell like on the toilet, imagine changing it when it's been sitting in a diaper. We started potty training right after my son's first birthday. He would be dry all night and show signs of needed to use the bathroom so he as ready to learn. Less than a year later he was fully trained

I work with 4 year olds and they are potty trained but some still once in awhile have accidents. At my center they don't let kids go into the older 2 year old room until they are potty trained (accidents still happen but they can't move up into that class in their still in diapers).

Do you mean like there's been no attempts to use the toilet or the child still has accidents?

Every time I peed or pooed I would hand my mom my diaper. She said I trained myself and asked to have clean underwear! I feel like even if the kid doesn't care about a dirty diaper you have to be consistent anyways.
