Is it okay to lie to a child about being adopted?

Assuming the child was adopted at birth, and has only ever been brought up by their adoptive parents, what do you think?

Adoption isn't a bad thing, why would you ever lie about it?! If you hide it he/she will feel like something is wrong with them and their situation when they find out. If you are honest from the beginning then they will look at adoption as a total norm. Kids only have trust issues with their parents when the parents lie to them. You want a good relationship with your child. Don't lie.

I think it depends on the child, what the birth parents wanted to do and what the adoptive parents think is best. I would wait until the child was of an age that I believed they would be okay with the information.

Yes some people don't handle it well, others handle it fine. 
Having been lied to about having a sister for my whole life, I feel very strongly against lying to people about their family.

Considering my kids were 4.5 and 6.5 when i adopted them for us its open knowledge. Cracked me up when my sister said something in front of my oldest son about him being adopted then was worried she shouldn't have said anything. I'm like, well he knows he is adopted so...

No that’s not okay. The children deserve to know where they came from, it’s their right to know. Unless if it affects their safety they should be entitled to know that.

Nope. No. I think it's healthiest to bring them up always knowing- makes it less of a big deal, if you lie they'll think there's a reason to, and there isn't.

I don’t think you should lie forever. I think keeping it from them until they are old enough to understand is fine.
