Confused

Okay so! There’s this guy in my life that I’ve known since we were kids. We’ve talked to each other on and off through the years but more recently since he went through heartbreak last year. Well about a week ago we started talking more and more and things got intense. I don’t want to sleep with him because we are only friends right now and I know I would catch feelings. But when confronted about me a few days ago by a coworker he wanted to act like he doesn’t talk to me and hasn’t messaged me since. I’m acting like it’s nothing and that I’m not hurt but I am. Does he want to be with me or not? And if I slept with him while friends would that really mess our relationship up? What should I do?
