IUDs?

Question

I've been on the pill for 10 years (only for medical reasons, not as a contraceptive) and I just got married. We aren't ready for children yet, and I have been considering switching to an IUD. We already use condoms, but I am slightly forgetful about my pills and occasionally miss one. Does anyone with an IUD have advice or personal stories? I'm visiting my OBGYN next week, so I want other opinions!

Answer

There are other forms of contraception that don't require you to remember to take a pill (e.g. The hormonal implant) which may be a better option as it's less invasive and better tolerated. If the hormones don't bother you I'd suggest looking into other forms of contraception as the IUD can cause your periods to be more painful and heavier, although not all women experience these symptoms.
