loving yourself more or loving someone more than yourself?

Question

They both make sense to me: so I think in order to love someone, you have to be able to love yourself first. But then again, I am able to give my life away for someone I love. what are your opinions?

I don’t believe that you have to love yourself to love someone else, it’s a kind of shitty attitude to have. Is it meant to suggest people who maybe have mental illnesses that prevent them from loving themselves are incapable of loving another, or whatever other reason they might have? I know that’s not true. 
To love yourself is a great thing, to be able to love yourself more seems like a blessing, but it’s not necessary. You don’t have to love yourself for another love to be valid. I certainly don’t love myself more than others I’ve loved.

I think you SHOULD love yourself before others but it’s possible to love others before yourself. I’m a firm believer in the idea that if you love yourself first then your love for others will be stronger & more productive.

I think that when you love yourself and really truly love yourself, I think that will determine the type of people you attract. Someone who might not love themselves, may settle for less than what they deserve: like my friend who has definitely struggled with always loving herself and has been hurt so many times because of it, by men who just want to take advantage of her, or use her, and even physically and emotionally abuse her. Once she started loving herself more, and realizing her own personal worth, she actually found a really great guy! One who is who he says he is, and one who loves her for her, and not just for what she can give him. Also, loving herself has been one of the main reasons why she's been trying to change some of her negative behavior and bad habits. Loving herself has definitely allowed her to put this man first in her life and it has allowed her to fully commit to him.

Yourself more. Because if you love others more than yourself you become consumed. And it doesn’t last or you get taken advantage of. Not that you have to be obsessed with yourself but love yourself enough to know boundaries and when things are toxic for you and being able to walk away. I have always loved my partners more than myself and it consumed me and I got depressed and taken advantage of for years because I was so consumed. Working on self love now.

In order to be in a relationship I had to know and love myself before I could do anything.
But now that I’m in a relationship it’s a good balance.  I think about him before me, and he thinks of me before him.  Sometimes I have to do things I don’t really WANT to do (ahem hosting his fucking family for thanksgiving) because it’s what he wants to do.
He barely sees his family and i just dropped a grand getting them out here and fed.....
