Can baby grow without a heartbeat? Praying for a miracle!

Currently 9 weeks according to LMP. 10 days ago, I went for an ultrasound with another obs at another clinic as I was having spotting and my usual obs couldn’t see me.

He did an abdominal ultrasound and could visualise the gestational sac, could tell me my placenta was separating and there was a small pool of blood between placenta and uterus wall. I found it strange because during my previous pregnancy with my regular obs, the techs always did it transvaginal as they could not visualise it via abdomen during early pregnancy.

Yesterday, I managed to see my usual obs. They attempted an abdominal ultrasound, said could not see much and proceeded with vaginal. Managed to visualise a baby 7 and a half weeks but there was no fetal heartbeat. She told me to give the results to my dr who will explain it to me. I saw the edd she gave me, 8th july 2018 while the other dr’s edd was 10th july 2018. She recommended some DT or DI scan which I assume is a more sensitive kind of ultrasound.

When my dr got the results, he immediately told me I was having a miscarriage and wanted me to do a D&C.; He did not mention anything about going for the other scan. Asked to wait for things to happen but he said it would be too painful, I could bleed too much and the uterus may not be properly emptied. He sensed that we are probably still in denial and not ready, hence he scheduled the D&C; this coming monday instead.

Based on the edd given by both the other obs and my usual obs ultrasound tech, baby is the right size for his/her age, however there is no heartbeat.

1. Is it possible for baby to grow without a functioning heart i.e. the placenta/yolk sac is supplying baby with nutrients to grow without a beating heart?

2. Could it be possible the ultrasound machine at my usual obs is not as sensitive as the other dr’s machine?
