what is considered cry it out

My son will cry not screaming but cry a little for like 2 minutes off and on when I put him down for a nap, I'm trying g to get him to go to sleep without me having to lay down with him. but I've read the studies on cry it out method. would that be the same as the cio method?

If it only takes him 2 minutes to get settled, it sounds like he's already developing self soothing skills. Any of the cry it out methods should not be started until 5 or 6 months at the earliest. There are several methods, but the one I did involved check ins and soothing without picking up the baby. It basically teaches the baby to fall asleep by his/her self. But every baby is different, my 3rd daughter never really needed it because like yours, she'd just fuss a few minutes and go to sleep, even at a young age. My boys had a harder time.
