Did I break the girl code?

Okay so I'm in my second year of college and I've been dating this guy for about a year. Before me he dated another girl for about four years. Now out of the blue the ex's friend says I broke the girl code because I knew his ex. BUT the last time I spoke with his ex was elementary school and we weren't even in the same grade and then I saw her once at a party in high school but we never even made eye contact. This all sounds really childish to me but just in case I'm wrong I'd like to know.
