Cats and babies?

Question

So my dad is convinced I️ need to get rid of my cat because she will “steal the breath” of my newborn. He says she will jump in the crib and be all in his face for milk. 
My cat doesn’t even get in my bed, let alone would try and make her way into this complicated crib..but what do you guys think. Can I️ keep my cat? I️ can’t get rid of her :( she’s my first baby. She’s not that nosey I️ really don’t think she would hurt my baby. Anyone out there have cats and felt comfortable with them around their new born?

That's an old superstition, the elders in my family use to say things like this. Your baby will be fine, I have a cat and my only concern is that I wouldn't know if baby is allergic, so my cat wouldn't be allowed in his room anytime soon, just as a precaution.

ive got a cat and a newborn. he doesnt care about her lol. the worst thing he does is lay on the changing table and get hair on it. youll be fine! 😊

Don't get rid of the cat. It is actually true for some cases because my uncle almost passed away as an infant from it. It's easily avoidable by only having them together when supervised.

I’ve heard that too- cats smell milk on baby’s breath and smother them... I wouldn’t risk it

Don't listen to that! People who perpetuate that weird superstition don't have cats or understand them. I can't see a cat trying to sleep with a baby because babies are too loud & unpredictable for a cat's liking. Keep your precious kitty!

It’s actually really not true. Google it and you’ll see countless articles about how much of a myth it is to show him. There’s literally no child anywhere who has suffocated from a cat doing this! 
Also - you can research ways to keep your cats out of the crib prior to the baby coming that will freak them out and make them never want to go in there again, like covering cardboard in 2-sided tape so they jump in and their paws stick. They’ll do it once or twice and never try it again. Stuff like that. 
Seriously though, so many people give up their cats because of something that is 100% untrue and it makes me sad.
