Formula to supplement breast milk development?

Question

Hi so I just had my baby boy on the 6th. I’ve been feeding him every 2-3 hours AND/OR demand. He gets sooo mad at me when I offer my right breast. But is perfectly fine and dandy when I give him my left lol. I hear baby’s have preferences. What I’m asking is, since I’m not exactly sure how much food he’s actually getting, is okay to still continuously breast feed him after I get discharged from the hospital and supply him with a small newborn enfamil formula? I’m saying once or twice. I want him to get used to my breasts but I don’t know how much is coming out, IF he’s getting any, so I was wondering what are some thoughts on this? My right nipple already has some scabs after his first eating 😞 would like some advice!

If the is producing enough wet and dirty diapers do not supplement you can actually hurt your supply and it is pretty vital to establish it in the first few weeks. I made this mistake with my daughter I won’t do it again.

If he gains weight and produces enough wet and dirty nappies, that's how you know he's getting enough milk. He will nurse frequently to build your supply. Babies often have a favourite boob, totally normal for the flow to be different on each side.

You won't need to supplement if he is putting on a good amount of weight. Best to speak to a doctor before supplementing
Also have you tried the football hold whilst trying on the breast that he's refusing? Like trying to trick him because his head is facing the same way as it would whilst being on the other breast? Babies can sometimes have a stiff sore neck for a while after delivery depending on the type of birth you had and he might not like facing a certain way.

I wouldn't supplement unless the baby isn't making enough diapers. Even then I'd take the baby in to get weighed before supplementing. Your supply is going to be determined by how much baby eats over the next while. Supplementing unnecessarily can hurt your long-term supply. Call a lactation consultant if you've got concerns they are so helpful

Supplanting is fine after nursing. I had this issue, and my colostrum was not filling my baby up enough so the hospital recommended giving him formula via syringe.  Just stick a finger in his mouth to get him sucking and very slowly push the syringe in.  I did tho until my milk came in, so as not to create nipple confusion!

try seeing a chiro and having him adjusted, that can affect feeding too. helped my 2nd child alot to get him adjusted at a week old.

My DD also doesn't like to fed with my right breast, only when she's really hungry. Fast let down, but even when they arent engorged she puts up a fight. Today I came across a comment here on glow about torticollis. I'm still researching about it, but it seems to be a reason for some babies to not like one side. Look it up and see if it's the case with your baby.
