How long until i’m safe?

Today when i woke up I realized I had missed my pill on friday and saturday. So I took them and awhile later I went to the bathroom and realized i was bleeding a little brown blood. Either it was my period or a sign of my birth control failing. I haven’t had sex since the missed pills, But how long do I have to wait to have sex again to be protected? Thanks!

It should tell you on the information sheet that comes with the prescription you’re using. Generally, if you miss 1 pill, take it as soon as you remember. If you miss 2 pills, take two the next two days to catch up. I think 7 days of active pills is correct too... I haven’t been on the pill in a long time. Also, if you miss 3 pills or more, it’s no longer effective that month... toss it out and start a new pack after your next period. Of course, be sure to use a backup method of birth control, such as a condom, after missing pills until you are covered.

My doctor told me 7 days but you can look in the information pamphlet that comes with the pills to be sure if you still have it with you.
