Atheists, would it bother you if the name you would like for your baby is highly associated with the bible?

Not trying to start any religious debate with this question. Just wondering how other atheists feel about this. I really like some biblical names (such as Isaac) but can’t stand religion, so I can’t decide if I want to use any of those names for my baby.

I believe biblically based or not they are just names. I am a Christian and my community was a little shocked I decided to name my daughter “Delila” (a variation on the biblical figure Delilah who was a temptress.) and I say “WHO CARES?!” I love the name, so does my husband, it’s our baby.... you name your little darling whatever you want!

I would go with Jebediah or Ezekiel .... but Sarah, Rebecca, David, Aaron, Michael?

A lot of Bible names have lost their religious connotation I think

I’m not religious, but the name I love are Hebrew. The names I wanted for my son were Judah, Levi, Malachi and Emmanuel, and I wanted Eden for my daughter. 
I don’t think of them as biblical names, just Hebrew names.

For me, it does. There are certain "biblical" names that I love but it's mostly the undesirable ones. Lillith, Leviathan, etc. I think my stance might be different if I didn't live in the bible belt. On another note,  I personally find those names to be too popular here anyway, except for the aforementioned names.

I am not religious at all .. 2 names on the list for my son were ..Kane & Abel I love them .. with that said my husbands name is Adam (figures) so he said no it's too biblical I would have been fine with it lol our sons name is Julian

The meaning behind a name is important to me. I love the name Isaiah, but it literally means  "salvation of the lord." Which isn't so much the problem for me, as how other people would automatically assume religious intent, and I want my child to have complete freedom in what he chooses to believe (or not believe), not be pushed into anything. So I was really on the fence about it, but his dad vetoed it for the same reason, so that was that! And we ended up picking something I love even more. 🙂

I’m an atheist, but my name is Sarah, my brother is Andrew, and my sister is Rachel. I’m not sure, but I think all of those names are in the bible because whenever I’ve mentioned my names to Christians they’ve made some dumb comment like, “Oh wow! All biblical names!” But my parents are atheist as well, I think they just liked the names. And I love our names as well. They are classic, and it doesn’t bother me that they are featured in a fictional text. I mean, if you like the name, use it. Chances are there is a book out there somewhere with a character by that name. Only Christian people will possibly think you chose the name because of the bible. But you know that’s not true, AND it shouldn’t matter to you what they think. I like the name Issac too. I actually didn’t know it was in the bible!

I’m so far from religious lol and it would not bother me one bit! I mean if all of your children were David Matthew and Isaac haha then people might ask you that allnof the time and I would be annoyed but. One name, no. Not at all. I feel like majority of the people who choose Isaac aren’t even thinking about religion.

Many anglo names are found in the bible,  so it would be difficult to choose a recognizable name that isn't.
