Thankyou present

Wasn't too sure what category to put this in. However, I was think of getting my 'friend with benefit' a thankyou Christmas present. We're not in a relationship but we are more than just 2 people who sleep together. I wasn't thinking anything too excessive just a few small gifts to show my appreciation. Since I met him he has been so kind and nice to me and overall has helped me though a lot of stuff. I don't want to tell him about getting him a present as I don't want him to feel obliged to get me something in return I want it to be a surprise, but I don't want him to get weirded out by it and think I'm moving too fast. My question is; is it a good idea or not?
