Can a job fire you without saying anything ?

So I’m a assistant teacher and I work in a day care so I’m around kids all the time. I’m still on probation but 3 days ago I was having some abdominal pain and had to go to ER plus I’m catching pneumonia. I texted my director and showed her my doctors note and she told me to feel better and not to come in. I came in today to just pick up my check and give her the note but next week she gave me the week off and she will text me my hours. Doesn’t that seem a little odd? I didn’t ask for a week off my doctors note said only through the 23rd that I should be off work.
