I’ve noticed something - I suspect you have too.
In general (not always, but on average)- the trend seems to be....
- Girl parents more often choose names for their girls that are historically boy names and so make them gender-neutral. (Ex, Logan, Morgan)
- Boy parents more often shy away from names for their boys that are historically girl names and so keep them girls-only. (Ex, Annabelle, Maria)
- Girl parents tend to dislike it somewhat more when people mistake their girls for boys (they don’t want their girls to look like boys even as babies).
- Boy parents don’t mind quite as much when people mistake their boys for girls (they don’t mind their boys looking “pretty” as babies).
So- if you agree that all this is generally true.....
Why???
Why do we tend to prefer historically male names for our girls, but then become extra attached to our baby girls being seen as feminine?
